For every instrument there are timeless classics, and if you’re a mando picker, well then you really ought to play this one. Blue Moon of Kentucky was penned by mandolin legend Bill Monroe in 1946, and the song went on to become one of the first mega hits of the acoustic world, even going so far as to be covered by Elvis Presley. One of the unique characteristics of this song is it’s change in time signatures, from the 3/4 (“waltz time”) that it starts out in, and then the jump to a faster 4/4 time later in the piece. This actually provides a great exercise in tempo and time changes, as you will discover when you jam along with the audio tracks for this lesson, not to mention a ton of fun!

Complicated song (to me) that switches between 3/4 and 4/4 time. This lesson makes it manageable. I love the tab for this first part, captures the core of the song without being overly difficult.
